Beginning in 2012, the data from plant inventories and monitoring projects, which were formerly managed by the "Zentralstelle für die floristische Kartierung Bayerns" in Regensburg, were transferred into the database system of the [http://diversityworkbench.net/Portal/Diversity_Workbench Diversity Workbench] developed and maintained at the [http://www.snsb.info IT Center] of the Bavarian Natural History Collections (Staatliche Naturwissenschaftliche Sammlungen Bayerns or SNSB). The maintenance and technical and content development of these databases are crucial for the continued usability and utility of these data. New data need to be mobilised and imported continuously in order to ensure that the data keeps being a valuable source of information for current and historic plant occurences and the distribution of plants, as well as plant conservation in Bavaria.

The target of the coordiation office for the Bavarian flora, established with support of the Bavarian Environmental Agency (Bayerische Landesamt für Umwelt or LfU) at the [http://www.botanischestaatssammlung.de/ Botanische Staatssammlung München], brings together volunteer experts, agencies, associations, universities, scientists and plant lovers in Bavaria. In order to achieve this, the coordination office works closely together with the [[AG Flora von Bayern|AG Flora of Bavaria]], various professional and botanical societies in Bavaria and Germany, as well as with the Bavarian centre for species conservation (Bayerischem Artenschutzzentrum). The coordination office looks into data analyses of the distribution of species and species groups and the composition of the flora, as well as into questions regarding the protection of species, habitats and nature. To do so, the coordination office collates biodiversity data from various sources and performs tecohnical and content-related data checks. The coordination office supports the volunteer experts with the documentation of the status of plant life in Bavaria, and this way helps people to understand changes in native plant life.

History and description of the project

Beginning in 2012, the data from plant inventories and monitoring projects, which were formerly managed by the "Zentralstelle für die floristische Kartierung Bayerns" in Regensburg, were transferred into the database system of the Diversity Workbench developed and maintained at the IT Center of the Bavarian Natural History Collections (Staatliche Naturwissenschaftliche Sammlungen Bayerns or SNSB).

The target of the coordiation office for the Bavarian flora, established with support of the Bavarian Environmental Agency (Bayerische Landesamt für Umwelt or LfU) at the Botanische Staatssammlung München, brings together volunteer experts, agencies, associations, universities, scientists and plant lovers in Bavaria. In order to achieve this, the coordination office works closely together with the AG Flora of Bavaria, various professional and botanical societies in Bavaria and Germany, as well as with the Bavarian centre for species conservation (Bayerisches Artenschutzzentrum). The coordination office looks into data analyses of the distribution of species and species groups and the composition of the flora, as well as into questions regarding the protection of species, habitats and nature. To do so, the coordination office collates biodiversity data from various sources and performs technical and content-related data checks. The coordination office supports the volunteer experts with the documentation of the status of plant life in Bavaria, and this way helps people to understand changes in native plant life.

The Botanische Staatssammlung München is highly appreciated by the expert volunteers and offers with the http://www.snsb.info IT Center] and the Diversity Workbench, a database system which has been developed in house, all prequisites for sustainable data management. The curators and data experts at the IT Center support the coordination office both with botanical and data-related scientific knowledge. The longterm close cooperation with the Landesamt für Umwelt is being continued.
